First Annual Rio Staff Wish List a Success!

Thank you to the generous families who adopted ALL 34 staff members on our first annual Rio Staff Wish List! From Expo markers and tissues to an entire class set of books and a refurbished iPad – these people have made our staff’s job easier by fulfilling their supplies list! It also helps Rio PTSA to be able to fulfill larger and more staff requests. Thank you for stepping up OneRio Resources!

Senior Showcase Cancelled
An annual tradition for Rio seniors and PTSA’s biggest fundraiser has been cancelled due to low sign-ups for the event and no parent volunteers. Rio PTSA has had to adjust their budget to accommodate the loss of $20,000 and Rio seniors will now miss out on a fun, reinvented event celebrating their last year of high school.

Other Rio traditions/events in danger of disappearing without student, parent and staff support:
Class of 2020 Safe & Sober Grad Night
(Underclassmen committee members still needed or it will end with Class of 2019)
Every 15 Minutes
(This dramatic drinking and distracted driving event was funded by Senior Showcase)
Rio Duck Derby
(This fun, whole school event, in need of a chair, that has made over $15,000 the last two years will end up being PTSA’s only fundraiser this year)

If you’d like to help save any of these events please email Kelli Wheeler at or come to the next Rio PTSA meeting on Wed., Feb. 13 @ 7pm in Rio Library

ASB President and Senior, Whitney Wheeler, is trying to save the Senior Showcase by replacing it with a Senior (Un)Talent Show. It will not be a fundraiser, but will give Seniors and opportunity to still have a fun celebration of their class. Please encourage your Seniors to sign up so they won’t lose this opportunity too. (See flyer above)

PTSA/OneRio Meeting Wed., 2/13 @ 6 & 7pm Rio Library
Why should you come?

Because you could win a Quick Quack Car Wash! Four will be given away in a raffle from signed-in attendees!

Because we need help! After founding and running OneRio for 5 years, OneRio Chair, Kelli Wheeler, is retiring! (Read: last kid is graduating.) Sonya Satori, mother of a Rio freshman, has stepped up to Chair OneRio for the 2019/20 school year along with co-chair Alana Trout, also a mother of a freshman.

However, they are going to need a committee who will help make sure all the #GreatThingsAreHappeningAtRio continue. Come to the meeting at 6pm to see how you can be invloved.

Because you will be informed. Being an active member of the PTSA is a wonderful way to be involved and is a direct pipeline of communication between administration, staff, and students. PTSA is the ONLY group on campus that supports the entire Rio commumity.

PTSA stands for Parents, Teachers, Students (and I’m going to say the A stands for Adminsitration). It takes us all to make sure our Rio community is the best it can be. Coming to a PTSA/OneRio meeting is an opportunity to get involved, get informed, get answers, ask questions (Principal Ginter is at every meeting!), and be inspired.

We all have busy schedules. No one is looking for another meeting to attend. But is an hour or two one night a month too much to ask for and from our Rio students, staff, and parents? There are nearly 2,000 students in Rio right now – that’s heavy lifting if only our 12 PTSA executive board members and our principal shows up.

Many hands make light work and a high tide raises all boats – let’s rise together. #GreatThingsAreHappeningAtRio

Still can’t attend but want to be informed? There is now a PTSA tab at OneRio.orgthat will be udpated with Minutes from the monthly meetings, latest news, and committee positions open.

A Special Presentation for Parents:
