What’s Next for
Improvements at Rio?
The SJUSD has placed a $750 million general obligation bond on the November 8 ballot. If you would like to see continued improvements at Rio including classroom and athletic facilities upgrades Measure P needs to be supported. Proposition 51, the state schools bond, will only provide $50 million to San Juan if it passes with the district’s 2014 facilities master plan identifying more than $2.4 billion in repair and upgrade needs.Rio will not see another penny ifMeasure P doesn’t pass. We will still get our lockers, upgraded locker rooms, large and small gym improvements, and curb appeal enhancements as part of the $15.2 million in improvements ushered in with new Performing and Academic Center (PAC building) to be completed by next fall – but then all the progress you are seeing will stop.

Let’s make sure Rio stays at the front of the line for long-overdue and well-deserved campus improvements. Please consider voting for Measure P (see here for more info). If you would like to help fundraise and campaign for Measure P please reply to this email with Measure P in the subject.

What Has OneRio/PTSA Done For Rio Lately?

  • Rio branded polo shirts for all 120 staff to start the school year (modeled by Mr. Feld above)
  • Notice bleachers at the Rio football field this year? You can thank PTSA Director of Projects, Beth McClure, and her Fashion Show fundraising team for bringing back the expensive bleachers providing somewhere to sit at our freshmen football gamesand for our upcoming soccer season (moved to winter for boys and girls).
  • Flowers planted outside counseling office in the long empty planter box. Thanks Beth McClure!
