Good Things Are Happening at Rio!

Good Things Are Happening at Rio!

It’s all about perspective. You can see mess and inconvenience or you can see progress and exciting change (finally!).

As you can see, or will see as schedule pick-up and first day of school quickly approaches, Rio is under construction. Some of the things we thought would happen this summer have happened: Construction of Rio’s Performing and Academic Center, painting of the school, refinishing of the gym floors, new sewage and irrigation pipes, UPGRADED TURF AREAS TO CREATE 3 SOCCER REGULATION PLAYING FIELDS IN TIME FOR 6 LEVELS OF SOCCER THIS WINTER plus temporary bleachers for the 2016-17 school year at the football/soccer field.

Some of the things we thought would happen this summer didn’t happen: new lockers, updated locker rooms, new landscaping and hardscape for Senior Lawn and front of school, new front entrance and directional signage.

Due to delays all the way to the state level, our aggressive timeline for Rio school improvements couldn’t all be accomplished this summer. But the$15.5 million in improvements for our Rio students will be accomplished by the 2017-18 school year.

Things may look worse before they look better, but people have been working hard to bring progress to Rio and this is what progress looks like.

Help Needed at Schedule Pickup!

We don’t want to miss opportunities to communicate with new and returning Rio parents and students. We are looking for parents and students (for the new OneRio Student Club) to help collect emails, sign-up new social media followers, and hand out support materials at a PTSA/OneRio table in between the Finance Office and Cafeteria.

Early Locks Get Cut!
Sorry guys – no getting a jump on locker selection this year. If you have placed a lock on a locker before Schedule Pickup Days, come take it off or be ready to buy a new one. Since we have to go one more year with old lockers our hard working custodians still need to wash all the lockers so no jumping the gun this year.
Principal’s Message:
Construction UpdateParking-When school starts on Thursday August 18, 2016, parking for students will be at a premium.  Although we are not planning on using parking passes, seniors and juniors have priority in the student parking lot.  We do ask that any students who can carpool together do so. There are only 300 total student parking spots on campus, a map of the student parking, staff parking, visitor parking, construction parking, and Senior Net parking is available by clicking here.  Those students who do not find parking on campus may use street parking, but must follow all traffic signs and laws for parking on the street.

Traffic Flow and Student Drop off-To help the traffic flow at drop off and pick-up, a map of where you should go, based on which direction you are coming from can be viewed by clicking here.
Important notice regarding construction

Construction on Rio Americano’s performance and academic center is in progress. Currently, asbestos remediation is underway in the courtyard between the gym and the administration building on campus. This work does not present a health concern to those on campus. A certified asbestos consultant is onsite to verify that all steps of the asbestos material cleanup process in the area have been done according to regulations and while the use of asbestos warning signs is required by law, this does not indicate that the adjacent areas to the work are unsafe. The asbestos remediation work will be completed and signage will be removed in early August.
